The second edition of the Pharm. (Sir) Ifeanyi Atueyi Debate and Essay Competition was held on Wednesday 8th July, 2015 at the University of Benin, Benin.
The Debate and Essay competition which started last year is meant to honor a patriarch in Pharmacy profession in Nigeria, Pharm. (Sir) Ifeanyi Atueyi, the founder and publisher of pharmanews, for his enormous contributions to the noble profession in the country. The Debate comprises all pharmacy schools in Nigeria and application for the essay is open to all undergraduate pharmacy students nationwide.
Sadly, this year’s edition of the Debate saw just two schools in attendance; The University of Benin, Benin and the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife. However, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, once again proved herself to be the Big Brother after the three rounds of debate, defeating the University of Benin with a margin of over 70 points and hence, winning the star prize and hosting rights for the competition next year.
The winners in the Essay category were also announced and their prizes awarded. Representatives from Shalina Healthcare were also present for a brief product exhibition and the program ended with a Speech from the honoree of the day, Pharm (Sir) Atueyi, where he urged students to be focused and determined as life would often throw challenges at them sharing some of his own experiences.
